Immigration during Imperialism time period

Many different cultures immigrated to America during imperialism.  The Irish came due to the potato famine.  Most immigrants came from the British isles.  Italians came because of bad economic conditions in their home country.  Some Germans came before their home country improved their industrial conditions.  Many immigrants were craftsman and left their home country because land in America was plentiful and cheap.  Most immigrants were not poor but came to America to avoid poverty.  Many Asians came to America as well but their travels were halted due to the Chinese Exclusion Act which prohibited Chinese immigration.

Immigration in the Gilded Age

There were many immigrants during this time period.  One that stands out are the Irish.  They are different because they were roman-Catholics which at the time was uncommon in America.  Chinese immigrants also were a big group during the gilded age.  Chinese immigrants worked many jobs including building railroads, mining, and clearing land among much more.  Americans didn't like Chinese immigrants and discriminated against them a lot much like the Native-Americans.
