Immigration In Colonial America

America is known for its diversity, but that had to of started somewhere.  Some of the first settlers in america came for religious freedom.  Pilgrims fled religious persecution in Europe and established a colony in america in present-day Plymouth.  After the pilgrims, a different group of people called Puritans also came to america in search of religious freedom.  A group of immigrants who arrived against their will were the slaves from West Africa.  The first slaves arrived in Jamestown in 1619.  There were around 7,000 African slaves in the American colonies.

Immigration

I chose immigration as my topic for my US History class blog.  I chose this topic for two reasons.  One is because of how the US is known for its how diverse it is and how many different kinds of people live here.  The other is because of the ongoing presidential election with Trump trying to reduce illegal immigration by building a wall.  The article talks about how there are over 11million illegal immigrants in the US as of today.  Most of them coming for "economic opporunities" and some coming for "family reasons."   In 2000 35 percent of unauthorized immigrants had lived in the country for 10 or more years.  In 2012 thtat number has increased to 62 percent.  Even thought there is a lot of good in having immigrants, when they are illegal nothing good comes out of it.
